#FarmingCAN inspire the next generation: Top TV presenter backs NFYFC's cooking competition

It is no surprise to see that farmings largest youth organisation is once again raising awareness of British farming and encouraging young farmers to get involved.

The newest challenge from the National Federation of Young Famers Clubs (NFYFC) is to find six of the best budget-brilliant British dishes and is supported by popular TV presenter Chris Bavin probably best known for heading up the BBC Ones Eat Well for Less?

It is open to NFYFCs 22,000 members (aged between 10 and 28), with Young Ãļ§Ö±²¥ being asked to share affordable, nutritious recipes that can help feed the nation using sustainable British produce.

The idea was formed in response to the Governments Food Strategy that aims to ensure secondary school children leave school knowing how to cook at least six healthy recipes.

But it is important for all involved to showcase British food and how vital cooking skills are.

Chris Bavin, who will help choose the top six recipes, said: With pressures on food security and the high cost of living, this challenge is an ideal way to make more people aware of great British produce and how easy and affordable it can be to cook from scratch.

It is important we celebrate British farming and encourage the nation to buy British produce as their first choice. I am excited about supporting this challenge and seeing what recipe ideas young farmers suggest. I have been to NFYFCs national cookery finals and was blown away by the talent so I know we are in safe hands for finding six delicious recipe ideas.

Each recipe entered needs to include enough ingredients to make a dish that will feed four people and cost no more than 1.50 per head. Sustainability is another aspect and produce used in the recipes must be locally sourced or demonstrate sustainable production.

Ed Dungait, chairman of NFYFC, said: Young farmers have a key role to play in sharing positive messages about British food and farming. The next generation will help ensure agriculture is appreciated, understood and sustainable for generations to come.

  • The top six recipes will be chosen by a judging panel including Chris Bavin and Nigel Owens MBE and the results will be shared during National Young Ãļ§Ö±²¥ Week (October 17-21, 2022).
